Quality vs. Quantity

Two instances of things got to me last week, in two different venues. First – I hate Wallmart about once every two years I walk into the store and think that I might buy somethings and then walk out in disgust. Sometimes it’s from the store across the street from the office, where it’s just plain dirty. In this case it was I needed a duffle bag, nothing fancy just something to put a few days of clothes into.

Plugg … the decline of the engineer

Long story made short, was curious about the open source Digg clone… Downloaded Plugg. There was a small bug in DB permissions that was causing it not to install correctly, so I cracked open the source.  OMG!  I’ve been dealing with OO PHP for long enough that what I found reminded me why I do have standards over the code that is produced. It’s not just bad, it’s..it’s…… PHP is clearly the new Basic.

Grumping at people who don’t use OpenSource

The web is rich with libraries and applications.  You wouldn’t think twice about using a linked list library — ok, I know people who do…  But, in the realm of high performance computing, use off the shelf solutions!

update on 360…

I’m going to broaden the previous rant… it’s all the social network… All I want is a on the profile page of a user to their blog information… Instead I’ve got to go and scrape the page to find the link to [View All Blog Entries ] then follow that to find the RSS feed… …sigh..

Yahoo! 360 is a pain, for such a big service you would think it would have a RSS Feed.
