I hate Adware!

Never gotten a virus, but this is this second piece of adware i’ve gotten!  Broke down and bought some AV software.  Cleaned up an fixed up, but grumble grumble.

Don’t let PR drive a release

When I started working at Yahoo! in a reactionary bit of vision — not really that bad of a vision — was to re-skin Yahoo Mail.  As we all know, information leaks at big companies.  So when we had a fairly clear idea of when Google was going to announce Gmail we of course had to align our release in the general timeframe to insure that Yahoo! got coverage along with Google..

Par for the course and I’m sure we weren’t the first project to have a PR driven deadline..  Of course at launch things went a little sideways.  The fallout of which included mantra’s like "don’t let PR drive a release date" additional process to insure that performance bugs weren’t created, the whole world isn’t supposed to be upgraded in a two hour window… etc. ,etc.

So here I am, startup land, where of course after slogging away at a release for months it goes out against my better judgement — and a list of bugs a mile long and lo and behold it take our service down for a few hours…

You think I would learn, or maybe I’m still an optimist at heart.

Elements of Simplicity

Just book marking Elements of Simplicity have to think about this for a few minutes..  Funny how the trailing slide is a 2×2 matrix turn 45′ to make it a "diamond".

The Grid is:

Cost – [lower ... higher]

Benefit [ lower ... higher]

Giving these key points:

  • 0,0 – frustration (low benefit, high cost)
  • 0,1 – contentment (high benefit, high cost)
  • 1,0 – concession (low cost, low benefit)
  • 1,1 – delight (low cost, high benefit)
  • 0.5, 0.5 – satisfaction

Of course there were 6 elements:

  • Time
  • Money
  • Physical Effort
  • Brain Cycles
  • Social Deviance
  • Non-Routine [we like routine]

Thinking about this and my Xside ideas…  maybe life in general.

Revmaster

Got the revmaster this weekend!  Now to finish outfitting it…  On the shopping list:

  • Pedals — Turns out that look no longer makes Delta cleat pedals, so either need to go shopping on eBay or "upgrade" two bikes worth of pedals.  The challenge with upgrading is what to get… so it’s off to eBay.   Some of the ideals:
  • Shimano PD-6620
  • Speedplay
  • Look Keo Sprint
  • Time — I really like my ATACs.  Kill review of the Time RXS
  • Need the Pilot computer — just need to determine if I need to replace the handlebars
  • The missing bolt…  Would you believe the person I bought it from didn’t know which way lock nuts went on and lost one.

    Punked

I’ve gone punk…  not really, but after spending three hours in a chair getting my hair bleached it’s worth a blog post.
